Well, the weekend is almost officially over. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and, to my US readers, I hope you had an amazing 4th of July!
Over the weekend I tried out the VIP Gold BB Cream from Skin79. Skin79 is a pretty well known Korean brand and, of course, Korea is known internationally for their amazing BB creams.
I’m not gonna lie… this was my first Korean BB cream. Sheet masks were actually my gateway drug product into the world of East Asian beauty. So, once I received this sample, I was pretty excited to give it a try. I stupidly didn’t think to take a photo of the sample before tearing it open because I was so damn excited so here’s a photo of the full size version courtesy of Google.
This BB cream claims that it can whiten and brighten your complexion, even out skin tone, fight wrinkles, and moisturize. It covers you in the sun care department by providing SPF 30 PA++ which fights UVA and UVB rays. I’m game! For the record, this BB cream also claims to give a dewy finish. I’m already oily in my T-zone, and probably should’ve used the Hot Pink (Skin79’s BB cream that moisturizes, but gives a matte finish), but I really like the dewy look so here we are. 😉
Some of the ingredients include: sweet almond oil, adenosine (the anti-inflammatory drug that’s now used to fight wrinkles), Kava extract (a South Pacific plant that is used to heal wounds), gold, and caviar (ooh, fancy). You’re supposed to be able to use this without a primer, but I did anyway because I use my primer almost every day.
The application was very smooth. I had been using Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB cream (and swore by it) previous to this. The consistency feels slightly thicker than Maybelline’s, but not so much that it’s difficult to apply. I used just my fingers as I usually do with BB creams. The scent is very light and not unpleasant. Straight out of the pouch it seemed to have a very slightly greyish cast so it doesn’t have yellow or pink undertones.
Below is a comparison of the before (left) and after (right) of using the BB cream. My skin hasn’t been doing too bad the past week so there wasn’t a ton to cover up, but there are a few spots from acne (such as on the left cheek) that were covered by the BB cream. I did also finish my whole look (brows, lips, highlighter, blush), but didn’t use powder so that you could compare. The lighting is ever so slightly different because a storm was rolling in, but the BB cream did brighten/whiten my skin some so this isn’t completely off.
Overall I was very impressed with this BB cream. It gave me light to medium coverage with only one layer. It felt very light and natural on my skin and I could even feel it moisturize my super dry cheeks! It did give me a glowy, dewy finish which I loved. I felt a little oily after a few hours, but that’s normal for my skin so I just swiped an oil blotting paper across my T-zone and was back in the game. It also lasted for a good 8 hours without budging (I did have primer on, so keep that in consideration). There wasn’t a greyish cast once applied (like I was concerned about when I opened it). I do believe that this cream only comes in one shade (as far as I have found) so it would be best for light to medium skin tones. Unfortunately, I don’t think dark skin tones will get much use out of this one.
Side note: The sample I received also included the Hot Pink BB Cream (mentioned above), which I haven’t tried yet. But there are also BB creams from this brand:
I do believe Skin79’s VIP Gold BB Cream gets the first ever 5 pomegranates! I absolutely loved the coverage, the feel, the finish… pretty much everything. I told hubby that the only way I feel I could love it more is if it smelled like fresh roses and a unicorn delivered it in a giant pot of gold. But I’ll take this as is, too. 😉
If you are interested in trying out the VIP Gold BB Cream from Skin79 yourself, you can buy it at Sokoglam.com here. I also found Skin79’s webpage in English which you can see here.
.Your Turn:
Have you ever tried a Korean BB cream before? If so, how did you like it? If not, what’s your favorite light to medium coverage makeup?
Thanks so much for stopping by and if you have a moment, stop by my Facebook and Twitter pages as well!
Great review! I tried a sample of Etude House’s Precious Mineral BB Cream and I really liked the texture of it. If I get a chance to get the full size version, I definitely would!

Skin79 Hot Pink BB is the business! It is one of my all time favourite BB creams. I’ve tried a sample of the VIP Gold and didn’t think it was all that different – maybe it was a bit more dewy compared to the Hot Pink? Do try the Hot Pink and report back on the differences you find! Glad you gave this a 5! 😀

Yeah, I’m really excited to try the Hot Pink, too! I figured I would love the BB cream, but I didn’t think I’d like it this much. Totally blown away by the quality and coverage. When I try the Hot Pink I’ll be sure to compare 😉 Thanks for reading!

Thank you! 😀 Yes, I was very surprised! It’s pretty reasonably price, too. I believe Soko Glam is selling it for $20. If you end up trying it, let me know! Thanks for stopping by!

You so should Rosie! I think you said that you have dry skin (cheeks…?) so the moisturization in this would be perfect! 🙂
