No-Buy 2016

No-Buy 2016

Well, I’ve reached this point.

Starting now, I will be embarking on a three month long no-buy of skin care and makeup products. Admittedly, I bought some things in “preparation” for this drought period, but hey… it’s the effort, right?

2016 no buy

There’s not much to this post except to keep myself accountable, I suppose. So, officially, I will not buy any skin care or makeup products until May 2016. (I have given myself the exception of Benton’s Snail Bee High Content Essence and Tony Moly’s Panda’s Dream White Magic Cream as I use them every single day.)

I was inspired to do a no-buy after reading about stashmatters‘ year long no-buy last year. While I most definitely can’t go and entire year, I feel like (with a little bit of struggle) I can last three months.

Now, you’ll see my still reviewing products and probably mentioning how I “bought” this and that. Everything has been bought before the no-buy.

Wish me luck!!

  1. Yay!! I found your blog again (I changed blog sites, and lost your one for a bit). I was Binarybeauty but now I am the beauty context. Good on you for doing a no buy, I have tried many times and always fail! Can’t wait to see how you go

  2. Good luck! I have way too much skincare stuff and have no plans to slow down anytime soon – let me know if you get a craving, I’m happy to send you a lil care package (mostly because it will help me unclutter!).

    1. Thank you! Skin care is so fun, isn’t it? I wonder if I’ll ever settle down and find my HG products because I just love trying new products so, so much! On that note, if you ever want to destash/declutter and send anything my way, I’m always game for new product. 🙂

  3. Great goal! I applaud you! 😀
It’s definitely allowable to replenish items you use everyday. The intent is really not to purchase unnecessary things. 🙂
GOOD LUCK! I know you can do it! You’d be surprised, it gets much easier after the first month!

    1. What’s really sad, though, is that (with the exception of that essence and cream), I should be good on pretty much everything. Ahh! I actually started this a week or two ago (but this is the official, official announcement haha) and the first week was so bad. I reallllllly wanted to online shop. It’s actually getting a little fun now because I’m getting creative about how and what I use. Plus, I’m finding stuff that I forgot I had! haha You’re my inspiration!! 😉

      1. Aw I’m glad I’m influencing for GOOD stuff… normally I influence people to do bad things lol 😛
It’s shocking how many items I’ve forgotten about in my stash… and they’re lovely items, I just forgot I even had them!

  4. I am totally trying to do the same, except I receive Glossybox every month and those products I now save for birthday gifts 🙂 It is really healthy way to think about our spending habits and consumer behavior! 🙂

    1. Thank you! Geez, it’s so terrible. I seriously use retail as therapy sometimes and I’m trying to use what I have, but maybe try new ways of using them. It’s getting slightly easier with each day so I’m hoping I’ll do well until May. 😉

      1. I know what you mean. Having this blog and IG though is my downfall as I am constantly seeing products that make me say, “Oooh, I HAVE to get that,” etc, lol. Sigh. Hats off to you though. 🙂

    1. Good luck to you! Yeah, I used up the rest of my Christmas money for things I had been wanting for awhile and some things I needed to replace. That’s why having an “official” start to the no-buy is helpful for me. I hope it goes well for you!! 🙂

  5. That sounds like a challenge. I work in an office at a mall here and I always arrive early and all items are just so tempting! Good luck 😀 Skin care could be an exception though. I have drawers of makeup that just pile up cause I keep buying stuff I use then wahhh. 😀

    1. That sounds SO tempting!! I work at a spa so we carry a lot of skin care items and, while I favor Asian beauty, when I see toners, cleansers, serums, and masks everyday it definitely gets me thinking of the items I have been wanting. Skin care can’t be an exception for me. I have so much that I should be set for awhile!! haha I hoarde skin care more than I do makeup, honestly. 😉

      1. That must be so nice to work at a spa, I love makeup but skin care is more important now. I’m just setting a budget and weighing options for things I’d need and want. If only some great skin care products can be sold locally here.
