Makeup By Evon Cream Matte Lipstick in Daring Marsala–Review

The matte lipstick trend has been going strong in fashion for awhile now, maybe due to celebrities like Kylie Jenner. I, for one, have found it difficult to hop on that bandwagon. It’s not because I can’t appreciate a gorgeous, full matte lip… but because I hate the way it feels. I find myself licking my lips, rubbing my lips together, and biting my lips… all. the. time. I always  have some kind of balm on and prefer lip gloss or creamy lipsticks that shine over matte finishes. It’s just who I am. So for now I patiently wait for this trend to pass.

That’s when this Makeup By Evon Cream Matte Lipstick fell into my lap… or, rather, my Memebox (reviewed here). This one is in the shade Daring Marsala. Initially I was not too excited. It’s matte. But, like a good beauty blogger, I sucked it up and tried it on. 😉

The Makeup By Evon line is a collaboration between the Youtube beauty blogger of the same name (here) and Memebox. As I said, this arrived in one of my Memeboxes so this isn’t a surprise. There are other shades in this line, but this seems to be the richest. The Memebox website describes this as a “cream-to-powder formula” that “sets to a velvety-matte finish”.

What I really like about this lipstick is that it’s buildable coverage, which is something I wasn’t honestly expecting. With one application, you get a beautiful deep pink color and with a second swipe, you get a rich wine color. Below, I’ve shown one application and a second, thicker application.

Application really is so smooth and silky. Plus the formula doesn’t start to set and dry too quickly, allowing you to apply evenly without issues. It lasted most of the day, including through eating and drinking, with very little transfer. I did need a touch up midday, but that’s not bad considering I wreck havoc on my lip colors sometimes. If you want to keep the deeper color, you need to apply more regularly, but the lighter shade will stay through most of the day.

Here, I applied one application (L) and a second for richer color (R):

Keep in mind that my lips tend on the pink side so shades appear a little more pink sometimes.

My favorite part? It really does stay creamy and soft, allowing me to persistently rub my lips together without catching–a God send! This became one of my new, unexpected loves in my lip collection. Plus, I think the rich marsala color is perfect for cooler weather! I give the Makeup By Evon Cream Matte Lipstick in Daring Marsala 4 pomegranates.

To get your hands on this creamy lipstick, too, you can find it on Memebox US’s website here. Check out their other two shades as well: Shy Marsala and True Marsala. Psst! If you’re new to Memebox and would like 20% off of $25 or more, I’d appreciate if you would use my referral code here.

Have you ever tried any cream matte lipsticks before? Thoughts?

  1. I have the same problem with matte lipsticks (my lips are dry) but for a good matte lip, I really love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, which is one of the only matte lip colors that doesn’t make my lips flaky and dry.
