Hi everyone!

I wanted to give you guys my review of Skinfood’s Black Sugar Perfect First Serum. It’s a serum, but it has the consistency of an essence which is very thin and watery. It is for dull, dryish skin that could use some exfoliation and moisturization.

When buying the full size of this product, it is intended to be used with special pads that (usually) come with it. The have a gentle exfoliating side and a soft side. How you would use this is to place some serum on the pad, swipe across your face with the exfoliating side first, then flip the pad and gently pat the rest of the serum into your skin. Because I received a sample size of this, I didn’t have the pads so I just used my fingers. It’s meant to be used right after cleansing which is odd, because usually toner comes right after cleansing, even if doing a mask or something similar, but I followed directions.

It smells like a delicious sweet liquor and I’m assuming that’s the magical black sugar. πŸ˜‰ It was pretty frustrating because I would (more than once) spill some on the floor, the countertop, or my toes when trying to get the serum on my hands. It’s almost like water so it’s difficult to use out of a little pouch like I received.

I didn’t see any brightening effects after using it for about a week, nor did it seem to help my acne. Whomp whomp. ;-( It did make my skin feel smooth and plump with moisture the next day so I can tell it did something, just not what I was hoping for.

I give the Skinfood Black Sugar Perfect First Serum three pomegranates because I feel like it’s pretty average. I didn’t hate it and feel like it did moisturize and smooth, but it didn’t brighten or help with acne. It may have been because I needed the exfoliating pads, but I already have plenty of exfoliators and moisturizers so I don’t think I would buy this product in the future.

    1. Skinfood is definitely one of my favorite brands so don’t let this review stop you. I’ve done a few other Skinfood products that were amazing and still have more Skinfood reviews in the works of things I’ve loved! I was a little disappointed in this one because there are so many great reviews out there on it, so maybe it was just me. haha! It was nice, just not amazing (and I want amazing!). Thanks for reading!! πŸ™‚

      1. You’re welcome! Yea, the brand sounds great! Masks tend to not work very well for me, so I’ll probably try out one of their other items that is more for sensitive skin:) I can’t wait to read your other reviews! xo

  2. Never heard of this little sugar perfector. That’s too bad it didn’t really do everything it was supposed to. But, the good thing is that it made your skin feel smooth! Yayyyy for three little pomegranates πŸ…
